  • S.M.A.R.T. Fitness Personal Training and Exercise Studio is the brainchild of Debra D. Williams, Ed.D. and she's on a mission to help you get in shape or stay in shape!

    Debra D. Williams, Ed.D. is an American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) certified personal trainer with more than 20 years of personal and professional experience in the health and physical fitness industry. She is familiar with the different forms of exercise used to improve, maintain, and/or optimize health-related components of physical fitness and performance.

    Debra is also a certified Spinning instructor, a certified Chair One Fitness instructor, and a former Aerobics and Fitness Assoc. of America (AFAA) group fitness instructor. She is a former licensed Zumba instructor, obtained a "small group" certificate to lead Kettlebell classes, and has taken workshops in nutrition and the foundations of a healthy diet and lifestyle.

Yoga Instructor

Lynda Shepherd has been practicing yoga for about 8 years. However, she was introduced to yoga about 20 years ago by a friend in the fitness industry. When that friend changed gyms, Lynda went on to other activities - dance, karate, running, biking, and rowing. She was reintroduced to yoga by another friend who described how good he felt after a class at their local gym. Lynda was convinced and resumed her practice. However, it was not until she attended classes in her community, did she come to love and appreciate what yoga could do for her overall well-being. The smaller classes and the individualized attention fed Lynda’s soul. As a yoga teacher, Lynda strives to offer that personalized attention to her students. While Lynda enjoys the quick flow of a vinyasa class, she has also come to appreciate and enjoy the slower movement in a Restorative class. She offers both of these classes to her community. She is a registered 200 YT. Lynda Shepherd, a Boston native, is married and lives in Philadelphia, PA with her 3 children, grandson, and dog. She loves sports and enjoys traveling both near and far.

Spinning Instructor

Sadly Ciara Lucas is no longer a part of our team. When she is in Philly, we welcome her back to sub!

She was a certified personal trainer, SPIN instructor, CrossFit coach, nutrition coach, and a 2x marathon runner. She is extremely passionate about health and fitness, and has been a fitness coach since 2016. Her coaching style is filled with energy and fun, guaranteed to get you moving, sweating, and smiling along the way.

MixxedFit Instructor

Born and raised in Philadelphia. PA. Tymika has always enjoyed a good workout. She loves to dance! Besides grooving through the house while cleaning, she never thought much about it being a good way to exercise. She then discovered the joy of Zumba! It started with her attending a class a few times a week. She enjoyed it so much it inspired her to become an instructor. She thought it was a great way to bring this joy to others. She received her Zumba certification in March, 2014. She started teaching shortly after. She participated in several Zumbathon's and fund raising events through the years. Then she stumbled upon Mixxed Fit while attending classes at Smart Fitness. The HIT inspired workout really helped her build a greater strength and endurance. It also posed a great challenge for her to become an instructor. She received her certification in June, 2019 and started teaching at Smart Fitness in August, 2019. Since becoming an instructor, she has had the opportunity of co-hosting two Mixxed Fit events. I say, “Imperfection is beautiful!" Through Mixxed Fit. I encourages our students to find their way through the workout. Movement and fun are our only goals! When you feel good, you can go out and do good. Through Mixxed Fit, I have the opportunity to help people and communities, one class at a time.

Pilates Instructor

Megan Gilmartin has been teaching the classical form of Pilates since 2002. She did her training with some of the best instructors in both Boston and New York City, and continues to study with a Master Instructor on a weekly basis. Megan's forte is her ability to connect with her clients to create a workout that is individualized to their specific needs and goals. Her clients have learned what professional dancers discovered years ago: Pilates makes you feel stronger, leaner and taller. Whether you're an athlete looking to boost your performance, or an office worker looking to ease back pain and improve your posture, or just generally looking to gain flexibility and core strength, Pilates is for you! Megan truly believes that Pilates will not only transform your body, it will also transform your life.

Chair Yoga Instructor

Joy has been purposed as an Instructor in many fitness capacities. Her expertise has touched on every area in the fitness world from dance to personal training. Her portfolio ranges from Water Aerobics to Boot Camp. She has a passion for all facets of yoga. She believes that you can begin to heal at any age and any stage.She has been assisting individuals to move towards positive physical living through exercise and mindful thinking for many years. Joy is the creator of Reggae Aerobics (ReggAerobics) a smooth rhythmic Caribbean style dance that involves subtle and stimulating movement of the hips. These wave-like moves activate the entire core to promote good intestinal health and a tight and right waistline. These dance moves also promote fat burning and flexibility.

MIXXEDFIT Substitute Instructor

LaTanya Myers-Boswell was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. She grew up in dance school and was trained by some of the best dance teachers on the east coast. She then moved to Concord, NC where she resided for 11 years and has recently moved back to her hometown. Unfortunately, while living in North Carolina she was diagnosed with two auto immune and neurological diseases, Neuro Sarcoidosis and Intracranial Hypertension. This prompted LaTanya to become more serious about her health. She lost over 110 pounds and gained her love for dance back through fitness, which lead her to get certified as a MixxedFit instructor. LaTanya has performed in several fitness events in North Carolina. She also hosted a MixxedFit weekend in Philadelphia, PA in 2017 along with other MixxedFit instructors from Virginia who also grew up in Philadelphia.

Substitute MixxedFit Instructor

Dr. Chantel Thomson graduated from at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM) in May of 2022. She is also a MixxedFit Instructor. She "brings" it every time! Her high energy is contagious. She is actually the one that brought MixxedFit to Philly and to SMART Fitness Studio... and we are forever grateful. She just subs now but when she teaches, you don't want to miss her class.
